Alan has a wide range of experience within education, regeneration policy and community engagement delivery with particular emphasis around the arts, youth work and the Third Sector. He has developed a number of significant community initiatives including the establishment of community radio projects, local authority inter-departmental ‘Out of Schools Learning’ initiatives, and award winning diversionary programmes. He also has experience in community asset transfers and local employment initiatives.

Alan is committed to the development of excellent community engagement practices for the Community Planning Partnership and has championed the establishment of improved financial & governance models for Third Sector organisations. He is a member of several groups and organisations including:

  • Renfrewshire's Forum for Empowering Communities (Chair)
  • St Mirren Football Club Community Trust (Chair)
  • Kibbleworks Management Group
  • Childcare First Limited (Chair)
  • Renfrewshire’s Community Planning Partnership Board

Alan holds a Masters Degree in Social Enterprise and is currently undertaking a Professional Doctorate (Justice, Welfare and Policy).

Amy returned to work for Engage Renfrewshire in October 16 as Finance Administrator after previously working for the company October 12 – March 15.

She is responsible for the administration duties within the Finance department.

Outwith Engage – Amy enjoys spending time with her family, going on road trips with her friends and attending concerts/gigs.

Darren has worked with Engage since January 2012. He is responsible for the Sales Ledger of Engage, Childcare First & recording the bank transactions of all our individual payroll clients.

Outwith Engage Darren enjoys spending time with his family and friends and enjoys the outdoors.

I started working for Engage in November 13. I enjoy working in the Finance Department and in particular for Engage as it is in the heart of my community.

My role in Finance has varied since joining and I am now training in the running of payroll and HMRC within Engage and its clients. I also do all the administration duties with the department which involves making sure there is a clear audit trail for all clients details, preparing and printing payslips and reports, keeping files updated, dealing with clients queries and all general adhoc duties.

In my spare time enjoy spending time with my daughter, my partner and the rest of my immediate family and cooking.

Frances has worked with Engage for 14 years. She is responsible for the Purchase Ledger & Petty Cash of Engage, Childcare First & payment of all our individual payroll clients invoices.

Outwith Engage Frances enjoys spending time with her family and enjoying the outdoors.

Heather Kay

Heather joined Engage in May 2016 and is the Credit Union Development Officer. It is her job to work with five credit unions across Renfrewshire. She supports the credit unions to increase their membership, recruit volunteers and provides advice on how they can become more sustainable. She is currently working on a campaign to raise awareness of credit unions throughout Renfrewshire.

Heather has worked in the third sector on and off for over 20 years- with a brief flirtation with academia where she studied Psychology and became an academic researcher. However, she missed working with the community and the feeling that she was ‘using her powers for good’ so returned to the third sector. Prior to joining Engage, she was the Children and Families Inclusion Worker in a large UK charity. In partnership with the children, families and staff, she developed a participation toolkit, which is now used as a guide for good practice throughout the organisation.

In her spare time, Heather enjoys attending comic conventions with her cosplaying daughter, knitting and baking with her mum, hiking around the UK with friends and 'myth busting' research with her husband.

Iain has a wide range of experience within community development, regeneration and community engagement delivery with particular emphasis around Social Enterprise, capacity building, community learning and development including Education Scotland School and learning community inspections as well as the Third Sector. He has also assisted with the development of a number of significant community initiatives including the establishment of community tool kits (Funding, Social Enterprise and Community Planning) He also has experience in community asset transfers and local employment initiatives and is also published with Glasgow university Department of Adult & continuing education as a model of good community practice case study.

Iain is committed to the development of excellent community engagement practices for the Community Planning Partnership and sits on Greener thematic board for communities.

Enjoys playing 7 a side football (too old and slow for 5’s) with his friends and Motorcycling.

Jacqueline is our Head of Finance with overall responsibility for the financial management of the company. Her responsibilities also include overseeing and promoting the Payroll Service and supporting the subsidiary company, Childcare First.

Jacqueline has worked for Engage for over 11 years and is a part qualified member of ACCA and continues to work towards her Chartered qualification outwith work.

Jacqueline is married and has 4 children, so as you can imagine she doesn’t have a lot of ‘free’ time!’

Joe Ferrie

Delivery Operations Manager

Joe has 15 years of third sector experience and has worked for DWP and within the private sector. His current role with Engage Renfrewshire (from 2011) covers delivery, policies and HR. Operational responsibilities include volunteering, social enterprise, capacity building, CPP (strategic/operational), health and social care integration, welfare reform, Empowerment Act and equalities. Joe is a Director of Childcare First and also sits on the Management Committee of Linstone Housing Association. Joe worked on the Charter for Year of the Dad, which will be launched by the First Minister.

Joe describes himself as young in mind, if not in reality! He has four grandchildren and thinks that is why his mind is kept young but the body failing – “a bit”. He loves music of all kinds and reading, when the opportunity presents itself – again with four grandchildren, free time is at a minimum, but he is not complaining; they are fabulous

Joe has worked for the company for around 16 years and as the Caretaker is responsible for the security of the building before and after the working day. Joe assists with health and safety processes, is the building handyman and is responsible for keeping the building shiny clean.

In his spare time Joe likes to spend time with his six grandchildren.

Karen is Engage Renfrewshire’s Volunteer Development Officer and also Chair of Renfrewshire’s Volunteer Manager Forum. Karen advises and supports the third sector on best practice, taking the lead on developing strong relationships with volunteers, colleagues and stakeholders to support the growth of volunteering in the sector.

Prior to this Karen held the position of Renfrew West Community Development Officer and was formerly an HR Director of a voluntary and social care organisation in Scotland.

Kate started working as Administrator at Engage in April 2016 having previously worked in a variety of sectors including charity, construction and advertising.

Kate enjoys the variety that the Administrator role brings as on a daily basis as it can include overseeing Reception, administrative support to the CEO and Board, Health & Safety, liaison with Engage’s tenants and events planning.

In her spare time she can be found either roaming the hills with her dog (doing an amazing Maria impression), out for dinner with friends or at a gig.

Kim has worked for Engage Renfrewshire for 10 years and is employed as the Volunteer Administration Officer. Kim has built up strong working relations with schools and has gained a wide knowledge of the Sector and the local community. Kim also provides administration support for Managers and staff.

In her spare time Kim enjoys up-cycling furniture, socialising and spending time with her family.

Stacey returned to work for Engage Renfrewshire at the end of October 2015 as Receptionist as well as doing another short period on the Renfrew West project. She works at reception Monday to Friday and assists with a variety of admin jobs.

Stacey has 2 kids (Reece and Lili) and enjoys going out in the car for a drive and seeing the sights. Her favourite place to go to is Oban. She has also taken up dancing and thoroughly enjoying it.

Community Capacity Development Officer

Stuart has worked with Engage and its predecessor since 2004. Currently Stuart is the Community Capacity Development Officer. This provides the opportunity to support, assist and work alongside community groups and associations across Renfrewshire. This includes assisting volunteers to set up new groups; providing information on constitutions, committees and office bearers. He also arranges relevant training that will support and inform local groups to become more effective in helping their communities but also becoming more sustainable, for example leadership & management, PVG and Gift Aid. Stuart also organises funding fayres, where community groups can meet with funders face-to-face. Plus assist groups identify and access funding, by way of a funding toolkit. This toolkit enables groups to consider if they are able to apply for funding and what they might have to put in place before applying for funding.

In life outside work, Stuart likes to watch football, go hill walking, keeping fit, going to the cinemas, and eating as much cake as possible.
