JOB TITLE: New Buddies Network Officer

PAY: £27,872 (Grade H Pt 52)

CONTRACT: 35 hrs p/w, 2 year fixed term contract

ACCOUNTABLE TO: Community & Partnership Manager, Engage Renfrewshire

RESPONSIBLE FOR: Improving the local social networks available to the ethnic minority communities of Renfrewshire 

The New Buddies Network Officer, funded by The National Lottery Community Fund, will lead our programme and will act as a social advocate for Renfrewshire’s minority groups. The officer will deliver a programme which will reduce isolation in our ethnic minority communities and improve the wellbeing of participants by increasing access to learning resources and reducing the barriers to social opportunities that have been described clearly by our target communities. The New Buddies Officer will lead an approach that amongst its aims will contain a commitment to sustaining a strong local advocacy role by encouraging participants to act as local advocates for their growing communities themselves.

Our New Buddies Network Officer will be aware of the needs to empower participants to build their skills and knowledge as well as share their collective experiences, which in turn will lead to a reduction in isolation levels reported by Renfrewshire’s ethnic minority groups and increased levels of wellbeing for all.

 Main Duties: 

  • Work to improve the local social networks available to the ethnic minority communities of Renfrewshire
  • Act to improve on the levels of satisfaction in services reported by Renfrewshire’s ethnic minority communities
  • Raise the awareness and improve the engagement levels of Renfrewshire’s ethnic minority communities with local initiatives
  • Encourage ethnic minority community members to engage with voluntary sector support and advice groups
  • Work to tackle the feelings of isolation recorded by ethnic minority communities in Renfrewshire
  • Work as a member of Engage Renfrewshire’s Community And Voluntary Action (CAVA) team
  • Encourage local partners to be aware and reflective of the diversity of Renfrewshire’s population
  • To develop a network which is self sustaining
  • To report to and work productively with Engage Renfrewshire’s Community & Partnership Manager, and collaborate where relevant with other CAVA staff  
  • To understand and connect with the aims of Scottish Government and Renfrewshire Community Planning Partnership
  • To adhere to all Engage Renfrewshire’s policies and procedures.
  • Any other duties which are consistent with the duties and responsibilities of the post

  • An understanding of aims of the Race Equality Framework for Scotland (E)
  • Experience of working with harder to reach groups (D)
  • Experience of contributing to and implementing network and communications plans (E)
  • Experience of working with volunteers and voluntary agencies (E)
  • Experience of collaborative working with other organisations and/or cross-sector working (D)
  • Experience of recording and utilising data for reporting (E)
  • Experience of gathering and repurposing case studies, testimonies, photos and quotes (D)
  • Experience of contributing to campaigns and/or running events (E)
  • Ability to represent Engage Renfrewshire at inter-agency meetings and events (E)
  • Ability to be well organised and to use initiative (E)
  • Ability to diary manage and to identify priorities within a busy workload (E)
  • Excellent inter-personal, communication and problem solving skills (E)
  • Excellent digital skills including social media (E)
